NHS App Integrates AI for Patient Navigation, Rolls Out Across England by 2028
The NHS app will soon utilise artificial intelligence to direct patients towards the most suitable medical care, ranging from pharmacies to emergency services. This initiative, part of a broader digitalisation effort, seeks to enhance efficiency within the health service.
Patients experiencing symptoms will input their details into the app, which will then employ an AI-driven triage system to recommend the next steps. This could include advising a GP appointment, a consultation with a pharmacist, or, in more urgent cases, directing individuals to accident and emergency departments.
The system is currently undergoing pilot testing in various regions, including London, with plans for a phased rollout. The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed that the AI functionality will be accessible to all users across England by April 2028, aiming to alleviate pressure on frontline services and optimise patient pathways.
