Lord Woolley Demands Public Inquiry into Jason Arday Media Scrutiny

Lord Simon Woolley, former chair of the Race Disparity Unit advisory group, has formally demanded a public inquiry into the intensive media scrutiny surrounding Professor Jason Arday. Woolley described the relentless pursuit of Professor Arday by sections of the press as a 'witchhunt', alleging Arday was 'hounded'.

Professor Arday, who became one of the UK's youngest Black professors at the age of 37, has been the subject of numerous articles questioning his academic background and achievements. This media attention has led to significant public debate regarding journalistic practices and the treatment of prominent Black figures in British society.

The call for an inquiry suggests a broader concern over the media's role in scrutinising individuals, particularly when such scrutiny appears to disproportionately target minority academics.
