Lucy Ness Received Animal Remains, Not Infant Ashes, From Funeral Director

Lucy Ness, a mother from South East London, has been informed that the ashes she believed to be her deceased infant's for over two decades are, in fact, animal remains. Ms Ness received the ashes following the death of her baby in 2001, a mere 22 weeks into her pregnancy.

The distressing revelation came to light after Ms Ness's family expressed doubts about the ashes' appearance. A subsequent DNA test confirmed they were not human, but animal. The funeral director responsible for the arrangements has since admitted to the error, stating they were 'mortified'.

Ms Ness described the discovery as 'horrendous', stating, 'I hope my baby's remains are with someone who loves them like I loved these.' The incident highlights the devastating impact of such mismanagement on grieving families.
