
Makerfield Voters Head to Polls for By-Election After Labour MP Josh Simons Resigns
Voters in the Greater Manchester constituency of Makerfield are set to participate in a by-election today, necessitated by the resignation of former Labour MP Josh Simons. This election is one of three Westminster by-elections occurring concurrently, with two others in the Scottish constituencies of Arbroath and Broughty Ferry, and Aberdeen South.
Over 30 polling stations across Makerfield will operate from 07:00 BST until 22:00 BST. Following the closure of polls, the counting process will commence, and a result is anticipated in the early hours of Friday morning.
A total of 14 candidates are contesting the Makerfield seat. Voters are required to present a valid form of photographic identification to cast their ballot. Accepted forms include a passport, driving licence, bus pass, or a voter authority certificate. Out-of-date photo IDs are permissible provided the image remains a clear likeness of the voter. Photocopies of identification will not be accepted.
