Michael Sheen Discusses Neath Port Talbot Toxic Waste Claims with First Minister

Actor Michael Sheen has held a meeting with First Minister Vaughan Gething to discuss allegations of toxic waste disposal in the Neath Port Talbot area. Sheen, whose family resides near the affected sites, has become a vocal advocate for local residents concerned about historical landfill operations.

Following the meeting, Sheen stated that discussions were 'early days but that's really encouraging'. He emphasised the gravity of the situation, noting, 'This has been going on for generations, my family live right next to these sites, so I’m aware of what’s been happening.' Sheen highlighted the extensive documentation compiled by residents, including evidence of medical issues and environmental degradation they attribute to the waste.

Residents' claims focus on various sites, including the former Brofiscin Quarry in Groesfaen and the Maesgwyn landfill, where hazardous substances such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and dioxins were allegedly deposited decades ago. The long-term health and environmental impacts of such practices remain a significant concern for the community, with calls for thorough investigations and accountability.
