Man Arrested for Allegedly Pushing Woman into Path of Bus on Putney Bridge in 2017
Metropolitan Police officers have arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, relating to a May 2017 incident on Putney Bridge. CCTV footage from the time depicted a jogger appearing to shove a 33-year-old woman into the road, directly into the path of an oncoming bus.
The woman narrowly avoided serious injury due to the bus driver's rapid swerve. Bus driver Oliver Salbris recounted that he would have "smashed her head" had he not reacted with such speed. The alleged perpetrator reportedly returned across the bridge approximately 15 minutes later, ignoring the victim when she attempted to confront him.
The Metropolitan Police had previously concluded their investigation in 2018, stating that all lines of inquiry had been exhausted after identifying over 50 persons of interest and arresting three men who were subsequently released without charge. The newly arrested man remains in police custody.
