Man Jailed for Throwing Girlfriend from Tower Block
Conviction and Sentencing
Jordan Herring, 22, from Solihull, has been handed a five-year custodial sentence following his conviction for wounding. Birmingham Crown Court heard details of the harrowing incident in November 2022, where Herring threw his girlfriend, Bobbie Goodman, from a fourth-floor flat at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood. This sentence also accounts for a previous conviction of coercive and controlling behaviour towards Ms Goodman.
Victim's Ordeal
Ms Goodman, then 18, sustained severe injuries, including a collapsed lung and multiple fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs. She required a month of hospitalisation and several more months using a wheelchair. Speaking out, Ms Goodman described the experience as "very dehumanising" and expressed profound emotional and physical trauma, stating she "really thought I might never walk again."
Details of the Incident
The court heard that Herring's mother made a distressed 999 call more than an hour after the incident, during which she expressed fear that her son might use a knife and alluded to delaying the call. Herring claimed their relationship was "toxic" and an argument about infidelity preceded the fall. Police have commended Ms Goodman's bravery in coming forward and continue to provide support.
