Man Released on Bail After Woman Shoved into Bus Path on Putney Bridge
A man has been released on bail following his arrest in connection with an alleged assault on Putney Bridge in May 2017. The 44-year-old was detained on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, nine years after a woman was reportedly shoved into the path of a bus.
CCTV footage from the time appeared to show a jogger pushing the woman into the road. The swift reaction of the bus driver, who swerved to avoid her, prevented serious injury.
The Metropolitan Police had previously concluded their investigation, having arrested and subsequently released without charge three other men. Detectives identified over 50 individuals as persons of interest before closing the case in 2018, citing exhausted lines of inquiry. The incident's re-opening and subsequent arrest mark a significant development in a long-dormant case.
