Manchester Councillor Sarah Wakefield Replaces Green Party Candidate in Makerfield By-Election
The Green Party has announced Sarah Wakefield as its candidate for the upcoming Makerfield by-election on 18 June.
Wakefield, who currently serves as a councillor on Manchester City Council, was selected following the withdrawal of the party's initial candidate, Chris Kennedy.
The by-election was triggered by the standing down of Labour MP Josh Simons. Wakefield stated the importance of offering voters a choice, remarking that it is “vital in a democracy that voters are given a choice of who they want to vote for”.
Further candidate announcements from other parties are anticipated as the election date approaches.
