Metropolitan Police Negligent Towards Man Accused in Putney Bridge Pushing Incident, Family Alleges

The family of Nicholas Brandram has publicly accused the Metropolitan Police of negligence and recklessness in their investigation into the 2017 Putney Bridge pushing incident. Mr Brandram, who died by suicide in December 2022, was identified by the force as a suspect and interviewed under caution, though never charged. His sisters maintain he was innocent and that the police actions contributed directly to his death.

Mr Brandram's family details how he faced 'immense pressure' following his identification as a suspect. They allege the police's investigative methods were flawed, causing significant distress and ultimately leading to him taking his own life. The Metropolitan Police stated they have reviewed the case and found no evidence of misconduct, noting their ongoing liaison with the Independent Office for Police Conduct regarding the family's formal complaint.

The incident involved a jogger pushing a woman into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge. While the woman sustained minor injuries, the driver narrowly avoided a collision. Over 20 individuals were interviewed in connection with the assault. Mr Brandram consistently denied involvement in the incident.
