Military Personnel Deployed to Combat Wildfires Across Wales, Four Teenagers Arrested

Military personnel have been deployed to assist emergency services battling extensive wildfires across Wales. The Welsh Government formally requested the Ministry of Defence for support as firefighters continue to address numerous blazes, notably in areas such as Porth and Maesteg.

South Wales Police have confirmed the arrest of four 14-year-old boys in connection with a suspected deliberate fire near the Cymmer Embankment in Porth. The arrests follow a weekend that saw the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service respond to 157 grass fires on Saturday alone, a figure significantly higher than the average for this period.

NRW, Natural Resources Wales, has expressed concerns over the environmental impact of these fires, noting that the hot, dry conditions are exacerbating the situation. The deployment of military resources underscores the strain on civilian emergency services and the severity of the ongoing fire crisis in the region.
