Millions of UK Households to Receive £100 Energy Payment Starting January
Approximately 8.9 million households in Great Britain are eligible for a £100 energy payment, which will begin reaching accounts from January. This initiative aims to provide financial relief against the backdrop of increased energy prices. The payments are not directly linked to specific individuals but rather to active energy accounts that meet defined criteria.
Customers will not need to apply for the payment; it will be automatically applied to eligible accounts. Energy suppliers are responsible for distributing the funds, which will typically appear as a credit on electricity bills. Prepaid meter users will receive the payment via vouchers or direct top-ups to their meters.
Eligibility for the £100 payment is determined by the type of electricity metre and the supplier. Households with traditional credit meters or smart meters are generally included. Further details regarding exact payment dates and methods are expected to be communicated directly by energy suppliers to their customers throughout December and early January.
