Montreal Officer, Civilian, and Suspect Killed in City Shooting Incident
A Montreal police officer, a civilian, and the suspect were killed during a shooting incident on Monday. The officer, identified as constable Andréanne Bergeron, was among the first responders to a domestic dispute call in the Saint-Léonard borough.
Reports indicate the suspect opened fire as officers arrived at a residence on des Galets Street. Constable Bergeron sustained fatal injuries. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, also died during the confrontation. A civilian at the scene was also killed.
This marks the first instance in 24 years that a Montreal police officer has died in the line of duty, according to the city's police chief. Details surrounding the exact sequence of events leading to the deaths remain under investigation by Québec's independent investigation bureau (BEI).
