NHS England to Trial Activity Incentive Scheme in Early 2025
NHS England is preparing to launch a pilot scheme in early 2025, which will incentivise physical activity by rewarding participants with shopping vouchers and discounted gym access. The programme, dubbed "marathon a month", seeks to encourage individuals to engage in 30 minutes of walking per day.
The initiative has been developed in collaboration with Sir Brendan Foster, a former Olympic medallist, and is intended to promote a more active lifestyle across the population. Participants will reportedly be able to track their activity through a smartphone application, accumulating rewards as they meet set targets.
This trial represents a continuation of the NHS's strategy to address public health challenges through preventative measures. Previous efforts have included various campaigns to encourage healthier eating and increased physical activity. Details regarding the specific locations for the pilot and the full range of incentives remain to be publicly confirmed.
