North Belfast Mother of Four Survives Pipe Bomb Attack, Calls it 'Mistaken Identity'
A pipe bomb detonated outside the home of Nicola Nugent and her four children in north Belfast, with the family narrowly avoiding injury. The device exploded at approximately 21:30 BST on Sunday, 26 May, causing damage to the property and forcing the family to evacuate.
Ms Nugent, speaking from temporary accommodation, stated her belief that the attack was a case of 'mistaken identity'. She emphasised that her family has no involvement in any disputes or illegal activities that would make them targets for such violence. Her children, aged between five and sixteen, were present during the incident.
Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) detectives have launched an investigation into the explosion, which occurred on the Whitewell Road. Initial assessments indicate the device was a pipe bomb, and police have appealed for information from the public. The incident highlights the persistent, localised threats of violence that continue to affect communities in Northern Ireland, often without clear motive beyond intimidation.
