Paul Gadd, Known as Gary Glitter, Charged With Historical Sexual Offences
Paul Gadd, the former pop musician widely known as Gary Glitter, faces charges for historical sexual offences. These allegations stem from incidents reported to have occurred between 1977 and 1980, involving a female under the age of 13 at the time. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the charges, following a Metropolitan Police investigation.
Gadd, aged 80, is scheduled for an initial court appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 5 August. He was arrested on 16 June and subsequently released on bail. The nature of the charges includes four counts of indecent assault and one count of serious sexual assault.
This is not Gadd's first encounter with the justice system regarding such allegations. He was convicted in 1999 for possessing child pornography and later imprisoned in Vietnam for obscene acts with minors. In 2015, he received a 16-year sentence in the UK for historical sex offences involving three young girls, a conviction upheld by the Court of Appeal.
