Pentagon Adds Alibaba, BYD to List of Chinese Firms with Alleged Military Connections
The Pentagon's formal Section 1260H list now encompasses over 80 'Chinese military companies' purportedly providing commercial services that benefit US defence operations.
Both Alibaba and BYD were cited as acting as military-civil contributors to Chinese defence initiatives. An Alibaba spokesperson has unequivocally stated there is 'no basis' for their inclusion, asserting the firm is 'not a Chinese military company nor part of any military-civil fusion strategy.'
The company confirmed its intention to 'take all available legal action against attempts to misrepresent our company.' The Chinese embassy in the US has labelled the list 'discriminatory,' maintaining that Chinese firms rigorously adhere to the laws of their host countries.
Other prominent Chinese entities newly added to the list include the search engine platform Baidu, electric car maker Nio, and aircraft manufacturer Comac. Existing designations for firms such as Tencent, Huawei, DJI, and CATL remain in effect.
