PlayStation Plus Basic Monthly Subscription Rises by £1 on 20 May
PlayStation Plus subscribers will face increased costs for their basic monthly and three-month subscription tiers, the gaming company has announced. A basic monthly subscription will rise by £1 to £7.99, $1 to $10.99, and €1 to €9.99.
Similarly, the basic three-month subscription will see a £3 increase, reaching £21.99 in the UK, $27.99 in the US, and €27.99 in the Eurozone. While specific regions for these increases were not fully detailed, the company stated that current subscribers, except those in Turkey or India, would not be affected unless their subscription lapses or changes.
These adjustments are scheduled to take effect on Wednesday, 20 May. The move follows a previous price increase for the PlayStation 5 console, implemented just a few months prior, which saw a £90 rise in the UK and $100 in the US, attributed to "continued pressures in the global economic landscape."
The video game industry is contending with supply chain disruptions, partially linked to the US-Israel war with Iran, which has driven up the cost of memory chips due to the artificial intelligence boom. Competitor Nintendo also recently announced price hikes for its Switch 2 console.
Despite a reported fall in PlayStation 5 sales over the past year, Sony's gaming division projects increased profits for the year ending March 2027, anticipating significant revenue from the forthcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.
