Prince Harry Seeks UK Visit for Meghan and Children, Security Disputes Persist
Prince Harry remains intent on bringing his wife, Meghan, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, to the UK. This follows continued disagreements over the provision of security for the family during their visits.
Reports indicate that the Duke of Sussex has consistently sought assurances of comprehensive security, a matter that has been a source of contention since the couple stepped back from their roles as senior royals in 2020. They subsequently relocated to the United States.
Since their move, the family has not returned to the UK together. Harry has made several solo visits, including for his father's Coronation in May and for legal proceedings. Meghan's last visit was for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. The children have only visited the UK once, for the same Jubilee event.
A significant point of contention has been Harry's legal challenge against the Home Office regarding the removal of his automatic right to publicly funded police protection. He has argued that the current arrangements do not ensure the safety of his family, asserting that his private security team lacks adequate jurisdiction abroad and access to crucial intelligence.
This ongoing dispute highlights the complexities faced by non-working royals who wish to maintain ties with the UK while navigating security protocols typically afforded to those undertaking official duties. The situation underscores the strained relationship between the Sussexes and the established royal institution.
