Prisoners Deny Attempted Murder of Urfan Sharif at West Sussex Jail

Two men have entered not guilty pleas to the attempted murder of Urfan Sharif, father of Sara Sharif, during an alleged incident at HMP Lewes in West Sussex. Steven Sansom, 39, and Adam Watson, 34, appeared at Winchester Crown Court via video link from the prison.

The prosecution alleges the attempted murder took place on 14 February. Mr Sansom and Mr Watson are accused of attempting to kill Mr Sharif, 43, who is currently being held on remand following his charge with the murder of his 10-year-old daughter, Sara Sharif, in Woking last August. Mr Sharif is also facing a charge of causing or allowing the death of a child.

The court has scheduled a trial for 5 August, with the proceedings expected to last three days. Both defendants remain in custody.
