Reform UK Investigates Councillors Filmed Making Racist Remarks
Reform UK has launched internal investigations following the emergence of footage depicting several of its councillors making racist comments. The party confirmed that all individuals identified in the recordings have either been suspended or have resigned.
The incidents bring scrutiny to the party's vetting processes, particularly as it seeks to expand its representation in local government. Critics argue that such behaviour indicates a systemic issue rather than isolated incidents.
One former councillor was recorded making disparaging remarks about Rishi Sunak, while another individual was shown stating that she would not support an Asian candidate for political office, citing racial prejudice. A third clip captured a councillor making comments deemed offensive towards Muslims. The party leadership has stated it maintains a 'zero-tolerance' approach to racism, though the repeated nature of these incidents casts doubt on the efficacy of their current policies and oversight.
