Retired Teacher Dominique B Faces Charges After AI Entrapment by French Influencer
A retired French sports teacher, identified as Dominique B, is currently in police custody following an online encounter with a social media influencer using an AI-generated persona. The 66-year-old surrendered to authorities in eastern France after a video of his conversation with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl was broadcast across multiple platforms.
The influencer, known as FINNYZYY, employed an AI-generated face and voice to create a simulated adolescent girl. During the 40-minute interaction, viewed live by over 40,000 people and subsequently millions more, Dominique B made explicit sexual advances, including suggesting a meeting at the Parc des Princes stadium and asking about sharing nude images. When reminded of the persona's supposed age, he dismissed the concern by stating younger girls had “already made love.”
Dominique B was recognised by viewers who alerted Pharos, France's state-run online content reporting platform. However, he presented himself to a local police station before official intervention. The state prosecutor in Vesoul has confirmed charges of making sexual advances to a person under 15 and soliciting an image of a minor for pornographic purposes.
The incident has ignited a debate regarding the ethics of such entrapment methods. FINNYZYY claims his objective is “to raise the alert… so that people understand how serious is the problem.” However, legal commentators like Mourad Battikh have expressed “very worrying” concerns, suggesting the influencer's primary aim might be self-promotion rather than genuine collaboration with law enforcement. Aurélien Martini of the USM magistrates' union warned that citizen vigilantes risk “disrupting genuine police investigations.”
Despite these criticisms, FINNYZYY has received support from far-right political figures, including National Rally deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy, who welcomed the mobilisation of “civil society” against the issue, citing a perceived lack of political action.
