Ryanair Window Shattered by Engine Debris, Passenger Partially Pulled Out on Flight

A Ryanair flight from Athens to Vilnius on 23 June experienced a catastrophic failure when a section of its engine broke off, striking the fuselage and shattering a cabin window. A preliminary report by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) details that a fan blade fractured and detached from the engine, with fragments piercing the engine casing and the aircraft's body.

The rapid decompression at 25,000 feet resulted in a male passenger being partially pulled through the compromised window opening. Cabin crew and other passengers intervened, pulling the man back into the aircraft. The pilot initiated an emergency descent and diverted the flight to Frankfurt.

Photographs from the incident show damage to the engine nacelle and the distinct circular impact point where the fan blade separated. The NTSB's involvement stems from the engine's US manufacturing origin, necessitating their oversight in the investigation into the mechanical failure and its severe consequences.
