Six Hospitalised After Foss High School Stabbing, Tacoma Police Detain Student Suspect
Six individuals sustained injuries in a stabbing incident at Foss High School in Tacoma, Washington, following an altercation. Tacoma Fire Department confirmed that five high school students and an adult security guard were transported to hospital on Thursday, all in stable condition.
Police detained the suspect, identified as a student at Foss High School, who also sustained injuries during the incident. Shelbie Boyd, a spokeswoman for the Tacoma Police Department, stated the suspect has been booked on five counts of first-degree assault.
Authorities responded to reports of an active assault at 13:35 local time. The fire department attended the scene, providing immediate treatment and transportation for the six patients. Earlier reports indicated four students were in critical condition, but authorities later confirmed all patients were stable by 16:00 local time.
Boyd informed media outlets that the incident stemmed from "some type of an altercation." Police arrived promptly, located the individual, and secured the scene rapidly. The investigation is ongoing, with officials appealing for anyone with video evidence to come forward.
Foss High School will remain closed on Friday and is expected to reopen on Monday, 4 May, with counsellors available for staff and students. This incident marks the second serious act of violence at the school; in 2007, 17-year-old Samnang Kok was fatally shot on the premises.
