
SpaceX Acquires AI Coding Start-up Anysphere for $60 Billion Following IPO
SpaceX has completed its acquisition of the artificial intelligence coding start-up Anysphere for $60 billion, shortly after its significant listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Anysphere is the creator of Cursor, an AI coding agent.
The agreement sees SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, integrate Anysphere’s technology, which utilises AI to automate code writing. This sector of artificial intelligence is currently a prominent area of development and investment.
The acquisition follows SpaceX's initial public offering on Friday, which saw the company valued at more than $2 trillion and generate $85.7 billion. SpaceX’s shares have since risen by almost 50% from their initial $135 offer price.
SpaceX and Anysphere had a prior partnership, established in April, which included a provision for either a $60 billion acquisition or a $10 billion payment for collaborative work. The deal, completed by the end of September, involves Anysphere shareholders receiving $60 billion in SpaceX shares.
This acquisition is part of SpaceX's broader strategy to expand its AI capabilities, particularly through its xAI business, which operates the Grok chatbot. The company stated in April that the merger would leverage Cursor’s product and distribution with SpaceX’s
