Stephen Kinnock Appointed Welsh Secretary in Prime Minister Burnham's Cabinet Reshuffle
Stephen Kinnock, the Member of Parliament for Aberavon, has been named the new Welsh Secretary, a move confirmed as part of Prime Minister Burnham's ongoing cabinet reshuffle. Kinnock, whose parents are former Labour leader Neil Kinnock and former MEP Glenys Kinnock, takes over from Jo Stevens. Ms Stevens has been reassigned to a ministerial role within the Department for Work and Pensions.
This appointment represents Kinnock's first senior government post since entering Parliament. His elevation to Welsh Secretary aligns with Prime Minister Burnham's strategy to reconfigure the cabinet, following recent significant changes including the appointment of John Healey as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Louise Haigh as Home Secretary.
