Teenage Police Officer Jess Turnbull Dies After Northumberland Road Collision
Police Constable Jess Turnbull, aged 19, has died following a road traffic collision on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington, Northumberland. The incident occurred at approximately 23:10 BST on 8 June, when PC Turnbull was attending to a separate collision scene.
A Mercedes vehicle, reportedly unconnected to the initial incident, struck a marked police car, resulting in PC Turnbull sustaining severe injuries. She succumbed to these injuries two days later in hospital.
A 73-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and subsequently released on bail as investigations continue.
In a statement released via Northumbria Police, Janice and Andy Turnbull expressed their profound devastation at the loss of their only child. They described Jess as a "remarkable" daughter who had joined the police force in September, following her father's career path. "From a young age, Jess was full of energy, determination and kindness," they stated, noting her passion for sports and coaching.
Becoming a police officer was one of PC Turnbull's "proudest achievements," her parents affirmed, adding that she "absolutely loved serving her community and was incredibly proud to wear the uniform." Northumbria's Chief Constable, Vanessa Jardine, previously commended PC Turnbull as a "dedicated and committed" officer who always sought to ensure community safety.
