Texas Motorway Jet Crash: Bystanders Smash Windows to Rescue Passengers After Mechanical Failure
A private jet carrying six individuals from Los Cabos, Mexico, to Austin, Texas, crashed on a motorway near Laredo after reporting significant mechanical issues. One person died in the incident, while the five survivors were transported to hospital in a stable condition.
Remarkable footage captured bystanders and first responders utilising tools, including what appeared to be a shovel and a sledgehammer, to smash the aircraft's windows and facilitate the escape of passengers. This impromptu rescue effort was undertaken as thick smoke and flames engulfed the wreckage.
According to Gilberto Sanchez, director of Laredo airport, the aircraft had contacted Laredo airport to report its mechanical distress prior to the crash. Jose Baeza, an investigator with the Laredo Police Department, confirmed that one vehicle on the motorway was struck by the plane during the impact. Five first responders required treatment for smoke inhalation.
The crash site, located on Loop 20 approximately 240km southwest of San Antonio, necessitated the closure of the major motorway. This closure is expected to continue as the investigation, involving the FBI and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), proceeds.
