Timothy Barnes Admits Defrauding Friends and Neighbours of £2 Million
Timothy Barnes, a 55-year-old financial adviser from Kent, has admitted to orchestrating a sophisticated fraud scheme that saw him illicitly obtain in excess of £2 million. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed Barnes's guilty plea to 19 counts of fraud by false representation at Maidstone Crown Court.
Barnes exploited his position of trust, targeting friends, neighbours, and individuals within his social circle. The court heard he convinced his victims to invest in various purported schemes, which were in fact non-existent. Among those defrauded were a charitable trust and a local residents' association, highlighting the breadth of his deception.
The financial adviser’s actions have resulted in substantial losses for those who entrusted him with their savings. Barnes is currently remanded in custody and is scheduled for sentencing on 26th July, where he faces a considerable custodial sentence for his extensive pattern of fraudulent conduct.
