Trevor Dunkley Pleads Guilty to 1998 Murder of Patricia Lashley After 28 Years

Trevor Dunkley, aged 66, has pleaded guilty to the murder of Patricia Lashley, who vanished from her home 28 years ago. Ms. Lashley, then 41, was last seen on 24 September 1998, in the Handsworth area of Birmingham. Her body has never been recovered.

Dunkley entered his guilty plea at Birmingham Crown Court. He was initially arrested and questioned in connection with her disappearance in 2000, but no charges were brought at that time. The case remained open, with West Midlands Police continuing their investigation into Ms. Lashley's whereabouts.

New evidence led to Dunkley's re-arrest on 30 January of this year. He was subsequently charged with murder on 2 February. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the conviction for murder without the discovery of a body, a rare but achievable legal outcome when other evidence is compelling. Sentencing has been scheduled for 25 October.
