Trump Administration Proposes Colossal 'Triumphal Arch' for Washington D.C.
The Trump administration has formally submitted plans for a monumental 250-foot (76m) 'Triumphal Arch' to be erected in Washington D.C. Former President Donald Trump, who has personally championed the project, asserted on social media that it would be 'the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World'.
Design and Intent
Renderings of the proposed arch, reminiscent of Paris's Arc de Triomphe, showcase gold inscriptions reading 'One Nation Under God', flanked by golden eagles and a golden-winged Lady Liberty, with lion statues adorning the base. White House spokesman Davis Ingle stated the arch would 'enhance the visitor experience at Arlington National Cemetery', serving as a 'visual reminder of the noble sacrifices' of American heroes.
Approval and Funding
The plans have been filed with the Commission of Fine Arts, a body primarily comprising Trump allies, which is set to review the proposal next week. If approved, the structure would surpass the height of both the US Capitol building and the Lincoln Memorial. The White House has not yet disclosed specific funding arrangements, though Mr Trump previously indicated that surplus funds from his 'fully financed' White House ballroom project could contribute to its construction. This arch represents another of Mr Trump's controversial initiatives to reimagine Washington D.C.'s architectural landscape.
