Trump Cancels Live Broadcast of Fort Hood Shooter Nidal Hasan's Execution
Former US President Donald Trump has cancelled the proposed live broadcast of the execution of Nidal Hasan, the individual responsible for the Fort Hood shooting. Hasan is scheduled to be executed by firing squad, an event that would constitute the first military execution in the United States in over 60 years.
Trump justified the decision by stating that certain observers would "rather not watch" the proceedings. This move aligns with a broader pattern of controlling public access to potentially controversial state actions, even as the mechanisms of capital punishment continue to be deployed.
The execution of Hasan, a former US Army major, relates to his 2009 attack at Fort Hood, Texas, which resulted in 13 fatalities and over 30 injuries. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 2013.
