Twelve Polish Citizens Die, Dozens Injured as Bus Overturns on Hungarian M7 Motorway

A coach carrying Polish tourists overturned on Hungary's M7 motorway in the early hours of Sunday, causing the deaths of twelve individuals and serious injuries to dozens more. The vehicle was travelling near Szabadbattyán, approximately 70 kilometres (43 miles) southwest of the capital, Budapest.

Hungarian police reported that the incident occurred around 04:00 local time. Emergency services, including multiple ambulances and medical helicopters, were dispatched to the scene. Among the injured, one child is understood to be in a critical condition, with others suffering severe trauma.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash. The M7 motorway is a key transport route connecting Budapest with Croatia and Slovenia, and a significant portion of the road was closed for several hours following the accident to facilitate rescue operations and forensic examination.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the fatalities and stated that consular officials were on site to provide assistance to the victims and coordinate with Hungarian authorities.
