Ultra-marathon Champion Dies on Cape Wrath Trail Record Attempt
An accomplished ultra-marathon runner has tragically passed away during a record attempt on Scotland's formidable Cape Wrath Trail. David Parrish, 35, was discovered in the remote Kintail area of the north-west Highlands on Saturday evening.
Investigation Concludes No Suspicious Circumstances
Police Scotland confirmed the discovery at approximately 22:25, stating there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Mr Parrish's next of kin have been informed of the incident.
A Distinguished Runner and Fundraiser
Mr Parrish, a former Royal Marine, was renowned in the ultra-marathon community, having won the Cape Wrath Trail race in 2023. His current endeavour aimed to complete the 234-mile route from Fort William to Cape Wrath in record time, while also fundraising for Scottish Mountain Rescue. This charitable effort was in memory of his close friend, Luke Ireland, a Royal Marine who died in the mountains of Glen Clova in 2014. Thousands of pounds have already been donated to his fundraising page.
Mr Parrish was a dedicated member of Dumfries Running Club, where he was crowned club champion in 2022. He was known for using running as a means of decompression during his military service and continued to push personal boundaries in the sport.
Tributes Pour In for Inspirational Athlete
Tributes have been paid to Mr Parrish from across the community. His employer, Barclays, expressed profound sadness, describing him as an "extremely popular colleague." Scottish Mountain Rescue stated they were "deeply saddened" by his death, acknowledging his generous spirit and dedication to their cause. Ultra Scotland lauded him as an "absolute gentleman" who continually inspired others.
