Venezuelan Boy Kleiber Moran Rescued After Six Days Under Syria Earthquake Rubble
Kleiber Moran, a two-year-old Venezuelan boy, was successfully extracted from the wreckage of his home in Syria on Wednesday, six days after the earthquake. The devastating tremor claimed the lives of his parents, sister, and grandmother.
His aunt, Luz del Valle, stated that she will now provide him with a "mother's warmth." The rescue occurred in Jableh, Latakia province, an area under Syrian government control. The child's family had relocated to Syria from Venezuela in 2021.
This rescue highlights the continuing humanitarian crisis in Syria, a nation already contending with a protracted conflict exacerbated by Western sanctions. The United Nations has repeatedly called for unimpeded access for aid, a plea often complicated by geopolitical considerations and the selective application of humanitarian exemptions.
The earthquake has further compounded the suffering of a population already enduring immense hardship, with international aid efforts frequently appearing more concerned with strategic positioning than with the immediate, impartial delivery of assistance.
