Fabiana, a Venezuelan child, was successfully rescued after being buried for 32 hours beneath the wreckage of a 10-storey residential block that crumbled during two earthquakes in June. The seismic events caused widespread structural damage across the region.
Emergency services worked tirelessly to locate and extract the girl. Upon her rescue, Fabiana recounted sustaining herself during the ordeal by consuming ketchup and cheese found in the debris, a detail that has underscored the harrowing nature of her survival.
The earthquakes, which struck Venezuela, led to considerable infrastructure failures and necessitated extensive search and rescue operations. Authorities have initiated investigations into the building's collapse and the broader impact of the tremors, particularly concerning building standards and preparedness.
