Wales Introduces £150 Fixed Penalty for Idling Vehicle Engines

A new fixed penalty notice of £150 for vehicle engine idling has been introduced across Wales, marking a significant escalation from the £20 fine that had been in place since 2003. This updated penalty allows local authorities to issue immediate fines to drivers who leave their engines running while stationary, contributing to local air pollution.

The move is intended to reinforce efforts to improve air quality and reduce environmental impact in urban areas. While the previous fine had remained static for two decades, the increased penalty aims to act as a stronger deterrent against the practice.

Local councils will be responsible for enforcing the new regulations, which apply to all vehicles idling unnecessarily on public roads and in designated zones.
