Woman arrested in connection with Nyla May Bradshaw's death
A woman in her 30s has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and child neglect in connection with the death of seven-year-old Nyla May Bradshaw.
Nyla was discovered unresponsive in a pond within the grounds of Owston Hall Hotel in Doncaster on 30 March, after being reported missing from a nearby park. She was pronounced dead at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Initially, South Yorkshire Police indicated that inquiries suggested non-suspicious circumstances. However, ongoing investigations have led to the recent arrest. The woman has since been bailed as inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Magnay emphasised the profound impact of Nyla's death on her family and the wider community, pledging continued support for her loved ones.
An inquest previously heard that Nyla, who was non-verbal and autistic, had been under the care of a childminder when she passed through a fence and headed towards woodland. Extensive searches, utilising drones and police aircraft, were conducted to locate her.
Family friend Charlotte Cooper previously described Nyla as "full of light and amazing energy," a "magical" and deeply adored child. A fundraiser in Nyla's memory has, to date, raised over GBP#20,000.
DCI Magnay has urged the public to refrain from speculation and to respect the privacy of those affected, stressing the active nature of the proceedings and the need to protect the integrity of future court actions.
