Woman Charged With Breaching Anonymity of Donaldson Abuse Victims
A 55-year-old woman has been charged with breaching the anonymity of victims subjected to abuse by Stephen Donaldson. The woman was arrested in the Ballynahinch area of County Down on Tuesday, 18 June, by officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's (PSNI) Paedophile Online Investigation Team.
The charges against her include improper use of public electronic communications and disclosing information likely to lead to the identification of a victim of a sexual offence. These allegations stem from the purported sharing of details related to the victims of Donaldson, a convicted child sex offender.
Stephen Donaldson, formerly a youth worker, was sentenced in May to 12 years' imprisonment for sexually abusing 24 boys over a two-decade period. His victims ranged in age from eight to 16. The severity of the abuses and the number of victims underscore the importance of protecting their identities.
The accused woman has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear at Downpatrick Magistrates' Court on 13 August. This case highlights the legal protections afforded to victims of sexual offences, particularly concerning their right to anonymity in the public domain.
