Woman, Teen Arrested on Murder Charges After Newport BMW and Motorbike Collision Kills Two
Gwent Police confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman on murder charges after a collision in Newport resulted in two fatalities. The incident, occurring early on Thursday on Aberthaw Road, involved a motorbike and a BMW car.
The two deceased males are believed to have been the driver and pillion passenger of the motorbike. The BMW is reported to have left the scene following the impact. All three individuals are currently in police custody.
A 24-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the fatal incident. Emergency services, including the Welsh Ambulance Service and an air ambulance, were called to the location shortly after 01:30 BST.
Newport councillor Alex Pimm urged the public to avoid speculation as investigations continue. "Two young lads have lost their lives, and my condolences are with their family and friends at this extremely sad and difficult time," he stated.
The Alway estate, near the crash site, remains under police cordon with a forensic tent established. Residents expressed shock, with some initially fearing another stabbing, recalling the 2021 murder of Ryan O'Connor nearby. Families of the deceased are receiving support from specialist officers.
