Yorkshire Wildlife Park Investigates Siberian Tiger Fatality, Identifies Victim William Chapman
William Chapman, a 33-year-old senior animal handler, has been identified as the individual killed in a Siberian tiger attack at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The incident occurred on Tuesday, prompting an immediate health and safety investigation by relevant authorities.
Emergency services were dispatched to the park following reports of a serious animal incident. Despite the rapid response, Mr Chapman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigation Focuses on Safety Procedures
The ongoing inquiry is examining the park's safety protocols, enclosure designs, and staff training procedures relating to dangerous animals. Authorities are expected to scrutinise how the tiger, named Vladimir, was able to interact with Mr Chapman in a manner that led to the fatal mauling.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park has confirmed its full cooperation with the investigation. The facility remains temporarily closed to the public as the inquiry progresses, with no immediate timeline provided for its reopening. The incident marks a severe breach in animal management safety, raising critical questions about welfare and operational oversight in such establishments.
