14-Year-Old Girl Remanded After Three Charged With Attempted Murder at Manchester Co-op Academy
A 14-year-old girl has been remanded into youth detention after appearing in court, charged in connection with a knife attack at a Manchester school.
The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared via videolink at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday. She faces three counts of attempted murder and two counts of possessing a bladed article on school premises.
During the brief hearing, the girl confirmed her name, date of birth, and address. District Judge Briony Clarke ruled the seriousness of the case necessitated it be transferred to the Crown Court.
Bail was refused, and the teenager is scheduled to appear next at the Old Bailey on 19 June.
The incident earlier this week at Co-op Academy in Blackley resulted in injuries to two 14-year-old pupils and a 27-year-old staff member. All three were subsequently discharged from hospital after sustaining non-serious injuries.
Counter-terror police are continuing their investigation into the attack; however, it has not yet been designated a terrorist incident.
