Royal Cornwall Show Cancelled as Strong Winds Cause Substantial Damage
The concluding day of the Royal Cornwall Show, which commenced on Tuesday, has been cancelled following a “thorough assessment of forecast weather conditions” and overnight damage.
Weather Impacts Event Safety
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region, predicting “unseasonably strong winds” with gusts between 45 to 50 mph from 09:00 BST to 19:00 BST. This forecast includes the potential for damage to temporary structures.
Organisers stated that the safety and well-being of visitors and stakeholders were “central to this decision”. Show secretary Mark Stoddart confirmed “substantial” damage caused by the weather overnight, noting that “a lot of the trade stands [were] down”.
Stoddart explained that the conditions, with bins, tables, and chairs blowing over, created an unsafe environment. He acknowledged the disappointment but maintained it was “the best option we have”.
Further information for ticket holders and stakeholders will be disseminated via the show’s official channels.
Beyond the Royal Cornwall Show, other regional events have also been affected. The Bideford sheep drive has been postponed to 8 August, and Camborne Town Council’s Camborne Green Fest is now rescheduled for September.
