AA and BSM Ordered to Refund Learner Drivers Over Undisclosed Fees
Automobile Association Developments has been ordered to compensate over 80,000 learner drivers and pay a substantial fine for breaching consumer protection laws.
Investigation Findings
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) concluded its investigation into the AA Driving School and BSM, determining that the schools had not transparently presented the complete price of driving lessons during the online booking process. This lack of upfront disclosure meant customers were not fully aware of the total financial commitment at the point of purchase.
As a direct consequence of these findings, Automobile Association Developments has been fined £4.2 million. Additionally, the company is required to distribute £760,000 among the affected customers, with individual payouts averaging approximately £9.
The AA admitted to the contraventions of consumer law and has agreed to settle the case with the CMA, accepting the remedies imposed.
