Sainsbury's Offloads Argos to Private Equity for £120 Million
Sainsbury's has announced the sale of its Argos retail chain to a private equity consortium in a transaction valued at £120 million. The agreement outlines that Argos will retain its existing retail footprint within Sainsbury's supermarkets across the United Kingdom.
Under the terms of the deal, consumers will continue to access Argos’s product range, including items from the Habitat brand, which will remain available through Argos channels. Furthermore, the popular Nectar loyalty programme will continue to encompass Argos purchases, allowing customers to collect and redeem points as before.
This divestment marks a strategic shift for Sainsbury's, streamlining its operational focus. The private equity consortium acquiring Argos has stated its intention to invest in the brand, aiming to revitalise its online and in-store propositions while leveraging its established market presence.
