Albert Manifold Denounces Allegations After BP Board Removes Him as Chairman
Albert Manifold has vehemently rejected the "lies" circulating about his conduct following his abrupt removal as BP chairman earlier this week. Mr Manifold, who served less than a year in the position, demanded an end to anonymity for those commenting on his tenure at the energy multinational.
Manifold Disputes Accusations
Mr Manifold's statement directly addressed reports regarding his behaviour, which surfaced after BP's board dismissed him with immediate effect on Tuesday. The company cited "serious concerns" related to "important governance standards, oversight and conduct" as the basis for his dismissal.
While acknowledging the board's decision, Mr Manifold asserted, "I dispute entirely this characterisation of my conduct." He contended that throughout his 40-year career, such accusations had never been levelled against him, and during his time as chairman, no issues concerning his conduct or relationships with colleagues were ever formally raised.
Mr Manifold suggested that his priorities, particularly his rigorous focus on shareholder interests and challenging "unnecessary or excessive expenditure," were "not always shared by everyone" within the organisation. He also highlighted his personal frugality, stating he avoided private aviation, corporate sports tickets, and made his own coffee, buying lunch from a local cafe.
