Andy Burnham Proposes New National Care Service for UK General Election

Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, has outlined a comprehensive plan for a new National Care Service, asserting that the current failures within social care are directly contributing to the strain on the NHS.

Integrated Care System Planned

Burnham detailed his vision for a publicly run, integrated care system, emphasising its necessity to provide dignity for elderly and vulnerable citizens, a provision he claims the present fragmented system consistently fails to deliver.

The former Labour Health Secretary stated that detailed proposals for this new service would be developed and subsequently presented to the electorate as a core policy during the next general election campaign.

He warned that the existing, inadequately funded social care framework will ultimately compromise the National Health Service. This assertion underscores a long-standing critique from various health sector experts regarding the interdependency of health and social care provisions within the UK.
