Angharad Williamson Appeals Life Sentence for Logan Mwangi Murder in Bridgend
Angharad Williamson, currently serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 28 years for the murder of her son, Logan Mwangi, has lodged an appeal against her conviction. Logan, aged five, was found deceased in the River Ogmore in Bridgend, South Wales, in July 2021. A post-mortem examination detailed 56 external injuries and catastrophic internal damage, consistent with a severe blunt force trauma.
The trial at Cardiff Crown Court in 2022 heard that Logan had been subjected to a brutal assault in the hours preceding his death. Williamson, along with her former partner John Cole and a 14-year-old boy, were all convicted of murder. Cole received a minimum term of 29 years, while the youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was ordered to be detained for a minimum of 15 years.
During sentencing, Mrs Justice Jefford described Williamson as having shown no remorse for her role in Logan's death. The precise grounds for Williamson's appeal have not been publicly disclosed. Appeals against murder convictions are not uncommon, though the standard for overturning such a verdict is high, typically requiring evidence of legal error or fresh, compelling information not presented at trial.
