Athens Police Hunt 89-Year-Old Suspect After Five Wounded in Petralona, Ampelokipi Shootings
An 89-year-old suspect is currently the subject of an intensive manhunt in Athens following a series of shootings that wounded five individuals. The incidents, which occurred on Tuesday, involved an assailant who first discharged a firearm at a social security agency in Petralona, injuring an employee in the leg.
Subsequently, the attacker proceeded to a courthouse in Ampelokipi, where four additional people sustained injuries. The suspect then absconded from the scene, leaving behind a shotgun. Police have established a substantial presence at both locations. The underlying motive for the attacks has not yet been publicly identified.
Reports indicate the assailant managed to enter the buildings with a shotgun concealed beneath his coat. Stratis Dounias, the head of the judiciary employees' union in Athens, confirmed that “Four women working at the small claims court were slightly injured.” All five victims – one man and four women – are understood to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect remains at large as the investigation continues.
