The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an inquiry into Bedfordshire Police following a shooting incident that resulted in a man receiving life-changing injuries. The event took place on the A1 southbound near Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, on Friday afternoon, requiring an air ambulance to attend the scene.
Reports indicate that police officers were responding to a report of a man in possession of a firearm. During the operation, a police weapon was discharged, causing serious injury to the individual. He was subsequently transported to hospital for treatment.
The IOPC confirmed its independent investigation began immediately after the incident was reported by Bedfordshire Police. IOPC regional director Graham Beesley stated that the investigation would scrutinise the circumstances leading up to the firearm discharge and the police conduct involved.
